Parotid Gland

The parotid gland is the largest of the salivary glands, located on each side of the face, just in front of the ears. Its primary function is to produce saliva, which aids in the initial digestion of food in the mouth. The parotid releases into the mouth through the stensen's duct.

Occasionally, the parotid gland can be affected by tumors, such as Pleomorphic adenoma, Warthim's tumor or different types of Parotid Carcinoma which most commonly present with swelling in front, below or behind the ear and mandible. In some cases it may present with facial nerve paralysis causing facial disfigurement. All of this condition requires intervention by an expertise as preserving the facial nerve is of utmost important in this types of skilled surgeries.
